As I sit here on thanksgiving day of 2018, I have spent the past few days thinking about what I am most thankful for. What has become clear to me is that I am most thankful for the alt-tech social media platforms, especially Gab, Minds, and BitChute.
In May of 2017, I tried to start a Twitter account for TTOR, and my TTOR Twitter account got shadow-banned after only two months. After I came across Gab in early December of 2017, I promptly started a Gab account, deleted the TTOR Twitter account, and have enjoyed using the Gab platform to share my videos, keep up with news and current events, and to meet a bunch of Christians and like-minded people.
I am very thankful for Gab.
Around this time last year, I came across Minds, which is an alt-tech Facebook alternative that uses a points system that gives you points whenever you post stuff, or other users engage with your content. This points system allows you to boost your posts’ visibility without spending a cent of your own money. Minds has been very good not just for sharing my own videos, but also for keeping up with news and current events.
I am very thankful for Minds.
When you consider that TTOR is primarily a video ministry at this point, BitChute is at the top of my alt-tech list. Not only are all of my favorite independent news and politics content creators on BitChute, but many of my videos have been promoted by BitChute on their Gab account when I’ve tagged them in a post, which shows that they respect all their users regardless of how big or small they are. With their help, the TTOR BitChute channel is growing faster than i had anticipated, and I am currently the largest YEC channel on the platform with 72 subscribers.
I am thankful for BitChute.
Lastly, and most importantly, I am thankful to God for allowing me to find these platforms, this granting me the freedom to say what needs to be said on the internet. If God hadn’t allowed these alt-tech platforms to come into my life, and if he hadn’t allowed me to have the modest success I have had on these platforms, I would mostly likely still be building my house of cards on YouTube and Facebook.
I wish a happy thanksgiving to anyone who may be reading this, and I pray that you will enjoy the time you have with your family.
Feel free to tell me what you’re most thankful for in the comments below.
